BACHELOR'S IN MUSIC EDUCATION | 10 YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE | MTNA MEMBER
I was a freshmen in high school when a friend asked me to teach. I had no idea where that journey would take me, but here I am over ten years later - still teaching and loving it! Lessons started in an east-coast elementary school. Often times I taught in any small space the school could spare (thankfully the days of running around finding free space are over!). Wherever my feet took me I still taught - from the east coast to Alaska to Australia and back to Alaska again. After taking a hiatus from school, I went back for a bachelor's degree in music education. I decided I wanted to better myself as a musician, accompanist, writer and teacher. My love for music and teaching only grew. Sure there were moments when the challenges were very difficult; however, all in all I am so grateful I continued my journey in music. It proved my love of music to be true. It also proved my desire to continue playing and sharing the joy of music with others. I love seeing students grow in their musicianship and ability level. I also love challenging my students to not just read music, but to embrace it, love it, explore the mystery of it, and write it. When my students chose to bring the best they can bring, I know I've done my job well. It's always an honor to be involved in music and sharing it.
